BCSA is a group geared towards developing a community and promoting cultural consciousness and awareness by creating programs, events, and activities for people of all ages, races, and ethnicities. Indian society is open to everyone who wishes to be part of Indian culture, to every one of Indian descent and to everyone who enjoys the bright and diverse ways of Indian culture.
BCSA Mission and Values
At the centre of the Bhartiya Cultural Society of Alberta’s mission is a kind of reunification effort, an offer to impart Indian culture in a warm, domestic setting. We try to make this happen through funding, community events, and cultural programmes to promote an understanding of and experience with Indian culture, language, and tradition. Our mission is to support diversity, cultural education, intergenerational relationships and provide a community space for everyone.
BCSA believes culture is a powerful unifier, binding people across centuries and continents. We want to showcase India’s vast heritage of traditions, arts, languages and festivals to Albertans and hope to establish cultural relationships and exchange.
Events and Programs
Throughout the year, our society holds many events and programmes that allow members and prospective faces to experience many aspects of Indian culture. Some of our most popular events include:
Festivals: Diwali, Holi, Eid, Baisakhi and a host of others; we Indians have a plethora of festivals, which are a peephole into the kaleidoscope that is the culture of India. They have music, dancing, costumes, and real Indian food, an authentic Indian experience for everyone.
Workshops and Classes: We offer educational programmes, seminars and courses in classical Indian music, dance, language, cuisine and art. The sessions are a lesson in Indian culture for the young and the old and entertainment for all.
Cultural Performances: There are festivals, dance concerts and dramatic performances in our culture that celebrate the incredible talent of the Indian population. Such festivals showcase classical Indian arts and the modern forms of those arts and allow us to witness India’s artistic heritage.
Community Outreach and Volunteering: We are passionate about giving back to the community. ‘Our members give so much to the province of Alberta through volunteerism and charity. That and service, one of our main goals, is to bring compassion and unity into the community.
Youth Engagement
The BCSA places a strong emphasis on youth involvement. We also see young people as the seed of the conservation and transmission of culture. Our youth organisations aim to cement the loyalty of the young to their heritage, develop their leadership potential and encourage service to the community. From cultural workshops to youth-led events and more, our programmes are a place for young people to be creative, socialise with other young people, and positively contribute to their cultural community.
Membership and Getting Involved
Bhartiya Cultural Society of Alberta is an excellent way to meet a bunch of Indians who enjoy Indian culture as well. People of Indian descent, regardless of culture, are invited to come and know and celebrate their heritage. They receive special events, discounts on programming and the chance to be part of a large, friendly society.
We want people to refrain from lounging about. However, we want them engaged on committees, on-site at events, or even to give of their talents and gifts. We are a society of citizens, encouraging participation at all levels.
